My Approach to Therapy
Day to day life can cause us to become consumed with the ideas of where we should be, who we should be, what is our purpose in this life among many other comparisons. As your therapist I am an ally to you, a guide to help you discover the version of you that brings you to the desired quality of life you are looking to achieve. My goal as a therapist is to create a safe environment while we work together, you will be able to consider each aspect of yourself all while discovering what your needs are and how to meet them.
I am a believer in our minds working based on the thoughts, words and energy we feed it on a regular basis. This means that genuine emotional processing needs to take place so that a person’s mind can shift to a healthy, positive, emotional processing manner.
My therapeutic style is gentle, engaging, curious, caring, humorous, accepting, encouraging, playful, collaborative, who will sometimes require therapeutic work that can be challenging. I utilize multiple approaches depending on the needs of my client. A few therapeutic approaches that I utilize regularly are person centered, narrative, strength based, mindfulness, play therapy and art therapy.
I have had the pleasure of working with children ages 5-19 years old who were recently released from hospital placements. My clients had significant mental health symptoms and my work here focused on teaching coping skills, goal setting, and working towards integration back to an actual school setting. I worked with the San Francisco Unified School District as the Intern MFT in their trauma based programs for elementary students. I also have experience working at the college and university level as well providing individual and group counseling services for students at Palo Alto University.
All of the clinical experience that I have gained has strengthened not only my skills as a therapist, but also how to be a better human on a daily basis. I am so fortunate to be able to work in a capacity that brings me such a huge amount of fulfillment so I take my role as a therapist seriously and appreciate each and every client that I am blessed to work with as their therapist.
I earned my B.A. degree from California State University, Fresno in Criminology and I then earned my M.A. in Counseling with an emphasis on Marriage Family Therapy from Palo Alto University in Palo Alto Ca. I am now a Registered Associate Marriage And Family Therapist (AMFT #123641). I am working towards completing my hours to become a Licensed LMFT. I am currently being supervised by the Director of TheraThrive Grace Malonai, PhD, LPCC, BC-TMH and Lead Therapist Katie Malone, LPCC, LMFT.
When people think of me, a few things come to mind. My love for Rumi’s poetry, my love for music and my gratitude to music as it has proven to be such a healing, connecting force within the minds and souls of so many people that I know. Sports have been such a large part of my life, and so I am a fan of all sports and appreciate the life lessons one can gain from sports. Finally I am a person who wants to simply dance her way through life listening to the music that navigates me through life and bringing as many people with me to do the same.
A Divine dance appears in the soul and the body at the time of peace and union. Anyone can learn the dance just listen to the music. ~ Rumi
