Rachel A. Powers, PsyD, LMFT

Welcome (Delighted you are here!)

My name is Dr. Rachel Powers, and I am delighted that you are interested in getting to know about me and my services. I am both a licensed Clinical Psychologist (PSY 29649) and a licensed Marriage and Family therapist (MFC 48418). I specialize in assessment and evaluations and supporting individuals (children, teens and adults), couples and families through counseling and psychotherapy. I am highly trained in working with specialty populations, including asynchronous development, high sensitivity, overexcitabilities, gifted and talented, complex trauma, and forensic issues.

A Beautiful Balance

I view assessment and therapy as a beautiful balance between both art and science. This means that I utilize my natural curiosity to get to know you, to understand you better, and to learn about your strengths and challenges. I will meet you where you are at and together we will identify a plan for our work together.

Throughout our time I will thoughtfully apply theory, interventions and techniques to further expand your strengths, support your overall wellbeing, and move you closer to meeting your individual goals.

My Approach

Assessment, Testing, and Evaluations

I have significant knowledge and experience working with intense, highly sensitive, gifted and very talented people. I take a curious and collaborative approach to identify and explore with you your perceptions and experiences of yourself and your environment.

Throughout the assessment process we will identify your specific strengths, explore and understand when you are likely to excel, and identify situations in which you may benefit from accommodations, modifications, or individualized support. My goal is for you to complete the assessment process with increased awareness, understanding, and acceptance of skills and abilities and to take with you personalized and practical recommendations to support your continued growth and development.

My style as a therapist is warm, receptive, thoughtful, and curious. I consider it an honor and privilege to have the opportunity to explore with you the ways in which you think about, experience, and engage in the world. My approach is tailored to each individual, couple, and family.

Together we will collaborate to identify goals, consider possible treatment approaches, and review and assess the therapy process and your progress. As an integrative clinician I consider your strengths, preferences, and goals and draw from Interpersonal, Humanistic, Systemic, Psychodynamic, Narrative and Cognitive Behavioral perspectives to inform our work together.
